Sweet Red

2–5" rounded clusters of single-petaled, deep red blooms on long, strong stems. Red color is slightly lighter and brighter than Sweet Black Cherry. Bred for greenhouse and high-tunnel production but also suitable for open field. Demonstrated excellent performance overall in our fall-planted, overwintered and unheated tunnel trial; it bloomed about 4 weeks earlier than Amazon. Plant vernalization is not required to initiate flowering. Fragrant blooms. Plants are high yielding, producing long-lasting blooms, up to 14 days. Tender perennial in Zones 6–8.
