Developed by Cornell University, Dickens ripens in late midseason and continues producing for approximately 10 days, depending on conditions. The large firm fruit has a short conical shape and produces many fruiting laterals, facilitating ease-of-picking. Dickens fruit has a good, sweet flavor with a bright red skin color and red interior. In trials in Ontario, Dickens showed good Phytophthora root rot resistance and good vigor through renovation. Dickens consistently produces high-quality fruit perfect for U-pick and roadside/fresh market operations but is also a great "easy-pick" variety for the home gardener. U.S. Plant Patent #32,535. Grows best in Zones 4–7. 1 Unit = 1 plant.
