Description
A dependable producer, Blue Oyster exhibits reliability, cold tolerance, and prolific fruiting during early spring or late fall. It thrives both indoors and out. A good option for growers who are new to growing on logs and ideal for commercial growers using straw as a substrate. Blue Oysters have clusters of dimpled caps attached to thick, tender stems. Their caps begin as a deep steel-gray and mature to a muted light gray. A staple gourmet option, these mild and velvety mushrooms are a savory addition to any meal.Colonization Rate: Of the sawdust spawn strains we offer, oyster mushrooms are the fastest to colonize. They take just 2–4 months in beds and 6–12 months on logs.Optimal Growing Conditions: Fruiting temperatures ranging from 55–75°F (13–24°C). Ideal wood species include Aspen, Cottonwood, Tuliptree, and Willow. Alternatively, other suitable species like Beech, Birch, Maple, Sycamore and more can be utilized. See our chart: Suitability of Tree Species for Growing Mushrooms on Logs for more information.Usage Recommendation: Blue Oyster sawdust spawn is suitable for various applications including log projects, outdoor beds, containers, and buckets. For optimal results, sawdust spawn is best utilized in larger projects involving 10 or more logs.NOTE: This product is not a standalone mushroom grow kit. To induce fruiting, Blue Oyster sawdust spawn must be combined with a substrate, such as straw, or used for log inoculation. See our chart: Substrate Types for Growing Mushrooms for more information.Bag Weight: 5.5 lb. USDA Certified Organic.
